Comfort for Depression Associated with Huntington's Disease A nurse called me recently about a female patient in her late 30's with Huntington's Disease. She is in the latter stages of her disease. She has two children and a husband she won't see any more because she doesn't want them to remember her how she is now.
The nurse told me this patient cries constantly. She played the tape, LIFTING LOVE and the patient immediately stopped crying. As long as she hears "The Comfort Series" tapes, she does not cry. The message on these tapes has given her peace.
Diana McMahan, writes: I once visited an 81-year-old female patient at her bedside who was severely depressed. She was on oxygen, very frail and extremely lonely. I approached her and explained to her that I worked at the hospital. It was my job to bring her some music. I asked her if she would like to listen to a musical tape. She said, "No". I told her it was hymns. She then replied, "Yes".
I played the tape, LIFTING LOVE which was written specifically for depression or sorrow. I put on the songs "Pause at His Feet for A Moment of Prayer" and "The Lord's Prayer". She was lying on her side with her eyes closed. When she heard "The Lord's Prayer", she put her hands together as if to pray along with it.
The next song, "It Is Well With My Soul" came on. She immediately started to cry. I asked her if she wanted me to turn off the music. She replied, "NO! NO!" I put the music back on and she began singing along very clearly in her bed. We talked for awhile after that song. She wanted to hear more hymns. I put on the tape, COMFORTING LOVE, a tape written for the lonely.
I came back to her room about an hour later. She was a different person. She thanked me for the music and told me how much it helped her.
Evelyn Heldenbrand was 92 years old, with no surviving family members. She was diagnosed with osteoarthritis, depression, and had a colostomy. She experienced times of severe pain while living in the convalescent hospital. Her nurses were at a loss as to how to help her. HEAVENLY ASSURANCE is a tape she used to enjoy listening to at any time, but especially when she was in pain. She used to play "Abide With Me" on the piano to her mother when she was a little girl. Whenever she heard this song, she would immediately stop crying in pain and start singing along with the music. She was usually sound asleep by the fourth song on this tape - every time!
