San Diego Hospice Nurses Say…
“We use Diana’s tapes for Pain Management. All of her Comfort Series cassettes have a calming effect on our terminally ill patients. Her reassuring prayers give them hope and help them not to be so afraid of the dying process”. ~ Mary Lee Sheflo and Yvonne Maybery, Hospice Nurses
Evelyn Heldenbrand was 92 years old, with no surviving family members. She was diagnosed with osteoarthritis, depression, and had a colostomy. She experienced times of severe pain while living in the convalescent hospital. Her nurses were at a loss as to how to help her.
HEAVENLY ASSURANCE is a tape she used to enjoy listening to at any time, but especially when she was in pain. She used to play "Abide With Me" on the piano to her mother when she was a little girl. Whenever she heard this song, she would immediately stop crying in pain and start singing along with the music. She was usually sound asleep by the fourth song on this tape - every time!
Double Masectomy Patient Comments “Diana, you have no idea how much your music helped me through this operation. I requested that the surgeon have it playing when they sedated me, and also that I wanted to wake up hearing it as well. Hearing those hymns and your prayers helped me so much. Thank you for making HEAVENLY ASSURANCE!
Effective Music for Pain Management
“We use the Comfort Series tapes for Pain Management on our Sub-Acute Unit in coordination with our Snoezelen Kaleidoscope. The visual effects and the soothing music help to relax those residents experiencing severe pain from hip replacements, knee replacements and various surgeries, strokes and other serious illnesses.” ~ Diane Mockbee, A.D.C, Past President of Arizona Association of Activity Professionals
Soothing “Lullaby” Music for Patients in Chronic Pain Diana's tapes really bring comfort and peace to our residents. I have seen them calm down some of our patients experiencing chronic pain. Her music soothes them, and puts them to sleep like a lullaby. Others, who are unhappy with their circumstances, receive comfort from the prayers on her tapes. Her music especially comforts our residents who are terminally ill, and those who cry loudly." ~ Cindy Bande, Recreational Services Director, Beverly Health Care, La Mesa, CA
“Your “Musical Medicine for the Soul” series have been very helpful in my work as staff chaplain. I use them for background music for memorial services in the convalescent hospitals. The nurses use them as well. They have found them to be very, very helpful. They play them bedside for agitated patients (and those in chronic pain). The music soothes the residents.” ~ Rev. Warren E. Williams, Chaplain, Friendly Manor Convalescent Hospital
Hospice Social Worker's Report "I was at the bedside of an elderly woman who was dying. There were a lot of disturbing noises out in the hallway of the hospital. This patient had a strong, Christian church background. She was listening to HEAVENLY ASSURANCE VOCAL by Diana McMahan. The sounds on this tape surrounded her with peace. This was an ideal tape for her. There is definitely a place for this kind of music for Pain Management, or that twilight state just before patients pass away." ~ Norman Vaylus LCSW, Vitas Hospice, Riverside, CA
