A WORD FROM WARD
The New Elders Are Us!

Today’s so-called ‘Second-Half’ Christian arrived when much of the Church was looking the other way. Boomers alone represent as much as 25% of urban and suburban centers in Canada and America, and between 25–40% of many congregations. Together with their parents, they are the ‘new elders’ of Christendom, the first generation intent on living another 30/40 years after reaching age 50.

Admittedly, younger Second-Halfers sometimes view older adults (70+) with mixed feelings and even a bit of avoidance; after all, they are the ‘parents.’ They also signal both burden and blessing to boomers who find themselves sandwiched between aging parents and children in college. Money IQ is Now on TV

As a CASA leader, the following program may be of interest for your group.  Money IQ is a television show devoted to assisting those over 50 in preparing for retirement and living those years to the fullest.  One important subject often not discussed in families is making funeral arrangements.

In this upcoming Money IQ segment, Randy Swanson discusses the subject of making final arrangements and the financial options available to you - the surviving partner or child.  This program will be aired on TLN cable network and can be purchased as a DVD to show to your class or small group.  You can find the program schedule and purchase information by clicking
